Hi, This is Sanchari. I grew up in Howrah(the neighboring town of Kolkata) eating my "mayer hather khabar" every day. I also remember eating either fish fry, moghlai porota, or vegetable chop every other evening. I first started cooking just as a task to feed my family. Then cooking became my passion and I found myself aiming for perfection over the years. They brought back the memories of the streets of Kolkata, my home, and my friends every time I made something authentic. Then I started to offer my friends to taste it so that I can share the joy and nostalgia with them. Many of them encouraged me to start a Bengali food service to turn my passion into a profession. I eventually listened. That's the start of Bong Bhojon.
Ilish Macher Sorshe bata diye Jhal aka Shorshe Ilish is a quintessential Bengali fish delicacy. But then who said Bengalis are all for fish and nothing else? Well, Bengalis do know how to do their vegetables too. And Shukto is just an example. This excellent recipe is full of the aroma and sweetness that is surely going to trigger your taste buds. I make everyday Bengali entrees(veg and non-veg) rotating through the items weekly.
Remember the fish chops, moghlai porota, or vegetable chops that you crave some days? I also occasionally make those Bengali snacks. Invited bunch of friends and family for a get-together and cooking is too much? I also take custom tray orders for small parties.
